The National Congress of Ghanaian Unions, in collaboration with Ten Talents Global and Access Media, hosted a gala reception in honour of two exceptional trailblazers, H.E. Mrs Sabah Zita Benson, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK and the Rt. Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, on Saturday, 31st January 2026, in London.
The occasion was graced by the Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, queens, members of the diplomatic corps, UK politicians, distinguished dignitaries, members of the Ghanaian community, as well as officials of the Ghana High Commission and the Commonwealth Secretariat.
It was a memorable evening of honour, culture, and celebration, during which both distinguished leaders were recognised and awarded for their outstanding contributions to politics, diplomacy, community service, Ghana’s progress and international cooperation.
In her address, the High Commissioner highlighted the profound symbolism of the night, a celebration of unity, heritage, and leadership, as well as the invaluable role of the Ghanaian diaspora as custodians of Ghana’s values and partners in national progress. She reminded guests that true leadership is not defined by position but by people, shared identity, and collective aspiration.
Hon. Botchwey congratulated H.E. Mrs. Benson on the recent successful presentation of her credentials to His Majesty King Charles III. She also reflected on the history of the Commonwealth, noting that its very existence was inspired by the vision of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. Speaking proudly of her Ga heritage, she shared how her identity has shaped her assertiveness and commitment to public service. She concluded by expressing gratitude to the organisers for the recognition and honour bestowed on them.
