Julia Sarkodie-Mensah’s journey from the courtroom to the corridors of traditional leadership is one of excellence, resilience, and service. With a distinguished career spanning more than five decades in law and governance across Africa and the Caribbean, she continues to play a vital role in shaping justice and leadership in Ghana and beyond.
A product of rigorous academic pursuit, Mrs. Sarkodie-Mensah holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree in History and an LLB. Her deep interest in justice and institutional development led her to further acquire postgraduate diplomas in International Human Rights Law and Criminal Procedure, Records Management, and Juvenile Justice—credentials that reflect both her intellectual depth and her dedication to justice reform.
Her professional journey began in Botswana, where she was called to the Bar in 1973. She practiced law for several decades, earning a reputation for her professionalism and integrity. Her excellence on the Bench later saw her appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Botswana, where she served with distinction and impartiality.
In 1998, Mrs. Sarkodie-Mensah was called to the Bar in Ghana, expanding her practice and influence within her home country’s legal system. Her wealth of experience and leadership attracted the attention of the Commonwealth Secretariat, which appointed her as a Justice Reform Specialist and Criminal Justice Expert. Through this role, she worked extensively in Sierra Leone and The Bahamas, helping to modernize justice systems, strengthen institutional capacity, and promote transparency and fairness within judicial processes.
Today, Julia Sarkodie-Mensah continues her legacy of service in a new sphere. She currently serves as the Chief of Staff at the Office of the Ga Mantse (King of Accra), His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II. In this position, she oversees strategic administration and coordination within the royal office, bringing her vast experience in law, reform, and management to strengthen traditional governance and enhance engagement between the Ga State and national institutions.
Her career reflects a rare blend of legal intellect, public service, and cultural stewardship. From advocating for human rights to shaping justice systems and now contributing to traditional leadership, Julia Sarkodie-Mensah’s journey stands as a testament to what vision, discipline, and dedication can achieve.
