'Pastors at Kufuor's meeting are in bed with NPP' - MP

Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing is convinced the religious leaders invited by former President John Agyekum Kufuor to the meeting held in his residence are ‘in bed’ with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Sampson Ahi, the pastors are hiding behind their pulpit to propagate the agenda of the NPP.

He cited many criticisms on government policies these leaders made while addressing their congregations to buttress his point.

He also said some of these religious leaders have persistently turned down invitations by government to take part in any public gathering citing Pastor Mensah Otabil as an example.

The Member of Parliament for Bodi constituency on Adom FM’s ‘Dwaso Nsem’ on Friday, opined that the leaked audio recording has exposed the religious leaders who are doing the bidding of the NPP in the name of preaching the word of God.

“The character of these leaders show that they have taken sides and are dining with the NPP,” he noted.

His criticism came after a leaked audio from a meeting President Kufuor held with the leadership of the NPP and some religious leaders including the Moderator the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Rev. Prof Emmanuel Martey, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra Bishop Palmer Buckle and Pastor Mensah Otabil among others to help calm down tensions in the New Patriotic Party.

The leaked tape has generated hullabaloo in the media which has heightened the tensions in the NPP.

However, in Samson Ahi’s view, the NPP cannot be united if the flagbearer of the party has formed his cabinet secretly in his ‘pocket’.

“If you are in a party and you have your cabinet list in your pocket, why wouldn’t people create chaos in the party? Sampson Ahi quizzed.
