Germany, France and UK signal readiness to take defensive action against Iran

 

Three major European powers — Germany, France and the United Kingdom — have declared their readiness to take what they describe as “proportionate defensive measures” against Iran following escalating tensions in the Middle East.

In a strongly worded joint statement, the three nations condemned Iran’s recent missile and drone activities targeting military assets in the region, describing them as destabilising and a threat to international security. The countries stressed that while they do not seek further escalation, they remain prepared to protect their personnel, citizens and strategic interests.

Defensive posture

The European trio, often referred to as the E3, indicated that any action taken would be strictly defensive and in line with international law. According to diplomatic sources, this could include measures aimed at intercepting missiles or neutralising launch capabilities where there is a direct threat to allied forces.

The United Kingdom has reportedly placed its forces in the region on heightened alert, while France and Germany are said to be coordinating closely with partners to assess the evolving security situation.
