It is with a heavy heart and a sense of profound indignation that I, Mankralo of the Ga
State and Paramount Chief of Sempe, issue this statement regarding the recent lawless
actions taken by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) against McDan Aviation
Limited.
The events of March 11, 2026, represent not just a breach of contract, but an assault on
the very spirit of Ghanaian entrepreneurship and a blatant defiance of our judicial system.
We are reliably informed that despite being served with a court injunction on March 10,
2026, GACL officials—under the cover of darkness at 1:00 a.m.—forcibly entered the
private FBO terminal to seize property and equipment. This act of "midnight justice" is a
stain on our democracy.
Contractual Disregard:
GACL willfully ignored the mandatory 90-day notice period required for eviction, a
provision designed to protect the millions of dollars invested by this indigenous Ghanaianowned firm.
Settled Obligations:
While a brief payment delay occurred due to global economic pressures, McDan Aviation
acted in good faith and fully settled all outstanding debts. To collapse a business over a
rectified administrative matter is nothing short of economic sabotage and highhandedness against a viable and promising Ghanaian-owned business.
McDan Aviation is a wholly Ghanaian enterprise under the McDan Group. As a nation, we
often ask: "Who will build Ghana if not Ghanaians?" Yet, when a son of the soil dares to
build a world-class private jet terminal that puts our country on the global map, he is
met with state-sponsored hostility rather than support.
The optics of this takeover are troubling. When local investors feel unsafe in their own country,
we kill the motivation for future generations to take plausible investment risks. Will this
unfortunate act of hostility be mated on foreign investor? We must ask ourselves: are we
comfortable with our own people prospering, or is the system designed to turn against success
once it becomes "too audacious"?
The whispers of political interference and the suggestion that this takeover is intended to benefit
individuals close to the corridors of power are deeply concerning. If we allow politics to swallow
our businessmen, we swallow the backbone of our economy. We cannot sit still while indigenous
investments on Ga land are jeopardized by what appears to be a calculated attempt to displace
a local giant for political gain.
As the Paramount Chief of Sempe, I call upon the President of the Republic and the Ministry of
Transport to:
Call GACL to Order: Immediately restrain the Ghana Airports Company Limited from further
lawless actions that defy the courts of this land and jettisons the good spirit of local investment.
Reinstate McDan Aviation: Restore McDan Aviation to their FBO terminal at Terminal 1
immediately to allow for the continued operation of this vital national asset.
Respect Due Process: Ensure that all disputes are handled through the proper legal and
contractual channels, not through midnight raids and intimidation.
We will not stand by and watch our indigenous businesses be dismantled. Let us support
homegrown initiatives that contribute to our global competitiveness rather than scaring away
those who not just believe in the future of Ghana but also commits good investments to provide
employment for the teaming unemployed youth of our nation.
Stop killing our spirit!
