Faith and Resilience: The Extraordinary Story of Aldi Novel Adilang's Survival

In 2018, Aldi Novel Adilang, an 18-year-old Indonesian fisherman, was stranded alone in the Pacific Ocean for 49 days after his small floating fishing hut broke loose from its moorings off the coast of Sulawesi.

With only limited supplies on board, Aldi initially lived off what food and water he had, but as his rations dwindled, he was forced to catch fish from the ocean, burn wood from his raft to cook, and filter seawater through his clothes for drinking.

Stranded and exposed to the vast, unpredictable sea, Aldi relied heavily on his faith, reading his Bible, singing Christian worship songs, and praying regularly to sustain his hope and courage.

Despite at least ten passing ships failing to spot him, Aldi's persistence and resourcefulness kept him alive as he drifted thousands of kilometers across the ocean.

After 49 days of incredible endurance, he was finally rescued near Guam by the crew of a passing Panamanian flagged vessel.

His extraordinary ordeal drew international attention, showcasing remarkable resilience, unwavering faith, and the incredible will to survive against tremendous odds.

Sometimes the human spirit proves stronger than the mightiest ocean.
