BREAKING:
Mali boasted a prestigious university in the 1200 AD that offered courses in Astronomy, Geography, medicine, Mathematics, and other subjects. Notably, it was the home of Mansa Musa, the wealthiest individual in human history.
Timbuktu, Mali, is renowned for being the site of one of the world's oldest universities, Sankore, which housed libraries containing manuscripts written in Ajama (African languages such as Hausa, scripted in an Arabic-inspired format) as far back as the 1200 AD. The University of Sankore is believed to have been founded by Mansa Musa, the richest man in history.
The curriculum encompassed subjects such as Geography, Astronomy, Medicine, Mathematics, Science, and History, which was unusual for the Islamic world at the time.
Upon the arrival of European and Asian visitors and colonizers in Mali from the 1300s to the 1800s, the Malians began concealing their manuscripts in basements, attics, and underground hiding places, fearing destruction or theft by foreigners. In recent times, approximately 700,000 scripts have been rediscovered, showcasing advanced mathematical concepts.
