Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been named as 2015 CAF Player of the Year ahead of Yaya Toure and Ghana’s Andre Ayew.
The award was handed out at the CAF Awards Gala held in Lagos.
He is the first Gabonese to win the award since its inception.
He got 143 votes while Toure and Ayew had 136 and 112 respectively.
The forward has been a key part of Borussia Dortmund’s season scoring 24 goals in all since August 2015.
He set a Bundesliga record by scoring in the first six matches of a season; a feat which had never been done in the 53-year history of the German top flight.

Despite missing out on the main award, both Andre Ayew and Yay Toure were named in CAF’s Best Eleven for 2015. It also featured Robert Kidiaba of TP Mazembe and Sadio Mane of Senegal and Southampton.
Africa’s Best Team for 2015
Gaelle Enganamouit of Cameroon won the Women’s Player of the Year award ahead of Gabrielle Onguéné, Ngozi Ebere, N’rehy Tia Ines, and Ghana’s Portia Boakye.
The Best Player in Africa award went to Tanzanian forward Mbwana Samatta of TP Mazembe while the Club of The Year went to TP Mazembe for winning the CAF Champions League for a fifth time.
Herve Renard was given the Best Coach of the Year award for guiding Cote d’Ivoire to win their first AFCON title since 1992.

Ghana’s C.K. Gyamfi was given the African Legend Award for his achievements with the Black Stars as he won the African Nations Cup in 1963, 1965 and 1982.
He passed on in 2015 but his feats were recognised posthumously and his son Edwin was present to take the award for the family.
