The producers of Rush Energy Drink have asked the general public to discard a message circulating on social media that the drink has been contaminated and is, therefore, unwholesome for human consumption.

It further urged the public to desist from circulating such messages, explaining that those false rumours were disincentive to the company and its line of business.

The said message, which is circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, advises recipients not to drink any plastic fruit juice called 'Rush.' It alleges that the drink has been shipped into Ghana from Nigeria, where it killed about 180 people.

But addressing a press conference on the company’s premises at Medie in Accra, the Marketing Supervisor of Twellium Industrial Company Limited, Ms Emelia Mefia Anokyewaa Agyei, said that message was a hoax which had been cooked up by unknown faces “just to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of our company and the brand in particular”.

"The company wishes to state that neither Rush Energy nor any of its sister products produced locally by the Twellium Industrial Company has been contaminated, poisoned or compromised," Ms Agyei explained.

"Our company is a health-conscious, law-abiding and environmentally friendly institution that places the health of its customers above everything it does. Because of this, we have always followed laid-down guidelines and standards in the manufacturing of all our products, including Rush Energy, which is widely enjoyed by many people across the country," she added.

Wicked and preposterous
The Municipal Chief Executive for the Ga West, Mr Sam Atukwei Quaye, described the message as wicked and preposterous and must be discarded with contempt.
He said records at the assembly showed that Twellium was a law-abiding company that had created employment for thousands of people across the country,
As the political head of the Ga West Municipality, where the company is located, Mr Quaye said he had an economic interest in the operations of businesses within the area, hence his decision to “help set the records straight”.
He further called on the management of Twellium to report the case to the Ghana Police Service and the various regulatory institutions for them to investigate and get to the bottom of the matter.

Twellium’s impact

The Marketing Supervisor of Twellium observed that although the company was yet to ascertain the source of the message, the allusion to Rush Energy Drink had caused some alarm among customers and the consuming public in general, prompting some people to stop patronising the drink.

That, she said, was disingenuous and detrimental to the fortunes of the company, which produces Rush Energy Drink and four other beverages.

Contributions
The Twellium Industrial Company, which has been in operations since March 2013, currently employs about 500 people in its factory.

Its General Manager, Mr Mohammed Kwawtharani, said the successes had become possible through the company's commitment to laid down rules and regulations in the food and beverage industry.

"In Ghana, we fully comply with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) guidelines and that has earned us the FDA Registration number FDB/14173.”
"The Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) has also testified and certified our products as quality and standard for the market," he added.

Going forward, Mr Muhammed said the company would continue to invest in its operations to meet demand, while focusing on quality, which had been its hallmark.
Twellium currently has franchise rights with Monarch Beverage Company in Atlanta, United States of America (U.S.A), and Mr Kwawtharani said it would strive to maintain that relationship.

The franchise makes it possible for Twellium to use Monarch's brand names in some of its products, while the USA-based company undertakes a periodic audit of the latter’s operations to be sure that it is up to speed with international standards.
