Pilot who saved Mahama and First Lady was a woman

President John Mahama has saluted the female pilot who was quick to embark on “a precautionary landing” with a helicopter conveying him and his wife Lordina last Friday.
The pilot of the M17 helicopter maneuvered the chopper following a “bad weather” and successfully landed at a field in Apatrapa near the Government Hospital.
“There was a storm approaching, so in order to safeguard the first family the pilot decided to embark on a precautionary landing,” an official statement from the Ghana Army said. “Nothing happened to the M17 helicopter and there were no injuries.”
Mahama, who was being transported from Sunyani to the Kumasi Airport – where the Presidential Jet was situated – tweeted on Saturday that he feels “great pride” and “proud” of the Ghana Armed Forces.
I feel great pride for our armed forces. Great intuition shown by our heli pilots. I feel so proud. And at the controls was a woman.

Mahama and his wife were returning from the funeral of Cecilia Johnson’s mother. They were safely returned to Accra that same day.
