Chief Imam warns Mahama over same-sex marriage

President John Dramani Mahama has been sternly cautioned not to allow same-sex marriage to be practiced in Ghana, since it could anger God (Allah) to punish the citizenry.

The National Deputy Chief Imam, Shiekh Kamel Mohammed, who sounded the strong warning, described same-sex marriage as an abomination in the sight of Allah, stressing that Ghana should not even consider it.

John Mahama Pen
Muslims in Ghana, he stated categorically, would fight the president with their last strength should he dare to allow same-sex marriage in the country.

According to him, even if the presidency allows same-sex marriage to be sanctioned in the country, all Muslims in Ghana will stand together and fight the decision until it is withdrawn, in order to save Ghana from God’s anger.

He stated that the Holy Quran and Bible preached against same-sex marriage so the president should not lead the country and its people into such a great sin that will certainly attract the wrath of Allah on the populace.

Sheikh Kamel, who is a member of the Peace Council, warned the president not to kowtow to any pressure or mouth-watering incentives that the West, especially the US, would use to persuade him to sanction same-sex marriage in Ghana.

He stated that the Holy Quran describes animals as being wiser than people who practise same-sex, indicating that God only sanctioned man-woman marriage “and both the Holy Quran and Bible testify to this fact.”

Speaking to Don Dada of Otec FM, Sheikh Kamel commended the Christian Council for asking the president to state his opinion on the same-sex marriage, saying that “Muslims will also follow suit soon.”

“Muslim leaders, led by the National Chief Imam, will soon visit President Mahama and we will make it clear to him that as Muslims, we strictly detest same-sex marriage in Ghana,” he disclosed.

According to him, if Muslims keep mute for same-sex marriage to take place in the country, Allah will punish the entire citizenry with calamities “and as Muslims we shall fight against this eyesore.”

He said Islam has sanctioned that people who would indulge in same-sex should be killed, saying, “such a person should be thrown from at least a ten-storey building and whilst he is coming down, he should also be pelted with stones.”

Sheikh Kamel traced the origin of deadly diseases such as HIV/AIDS in the world to abominable acts such as same-sex marriage, admonishing the country not to follow the US blindly in order to stay away from the wrath of God.
